How to Make Candle Wedding Favors
September 16th, 2011 at 20:55Weddings need expenditures – this is a reality of life – and if you’re racking your head for the best mementos, why not consider candle wedding favors? They are typically affordable; are generally available; come in a selection of colors, aromas, sizes and shape; can be given away at any time of year; can be customized; and can be prepared from home.
If you plan to produce your own wedding favors candles, then you would need several things:
1. A safe location to work. Melted wax will clog the drain in your sink, it’s flammable at a certain temperature, and it can be difficult to remove on certain surfaces. Be cautious and take preventive measures.
2. A heat source. This may be a hot plate or stove.
3. A pot. This will be used for boiling water. The mouth should be wide enough for an old coffee can to slip in.
4. An old coffee can. This is where the wax goes. This must fit in the pot.
5. Wax. You can pick from beeswax, paraffin wax, soy wax, gel wax, or palm wax.
6. Wick. Flat wicks, square wicks, cored wicks, oil lamp wicks and special wicks.
7. Mold or container. Opt for containers or molds that are wider at the mouth than in the bottom so your candle can easily slip out. For personalized and one of a kind candles, you could design one and have a professional create it for you. Oil the inside of the mold with vegetable oil.
8.Aromas and color. There is a wide selection to select from, according to your choice for your wedding favors.
You need to practice first before you can perfect the craft and then produce wonderful wedding favor candles. The basic method is as follows:
1. Heat a few inches of water in the pot. There should be just enough that it doesn’t dry up and the coffee can inside the pot doesn’t float around.
2.Put the wax in the coffee can. For practice, you can use wax from old candles, just be sure you take out the wick and other things that might be stuck there.
3. Let the wax melt. You can put in crayon bits to put color into your practice candles.
4.Pour the melted wax into your mould, giving space at the top.
5.Place in the wick. You need to keep this steady while the wax cools down and hardens.
Don’t forget to take precautionary measures when you’re creating your own candle wedding favors.
